Endodontist

Tina Hauman, MMedSci, BChD, MDS(Endo)

Tina Hauman is a South African native who has been living in Dunedin, New Zealand since 1997.

She completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Pretoria in 1986. She then lectured full-time for four years at MEDUNSA and another seven at the Dental Faculty of the University of Stellenbosch, before finally moving to Dunedin where she started lecturing at Otago University's Dental Faculty.

In 2002, she achieved her Masters of Dental Surgery from Otago University and set up a private practice as an Endodontist.

She continues to tutor part-time at the University of Otago and is passionate about helping provide quality dentistry to under-served communities around the South Island.

Tina is a caring and compassionate person. She has been in the dental industry for over thirty years, and lectures in the field to share her knowledge with others.

She authored several original scientific papers, was editor of the NZ Endodontics Journal for many years and is active in many associations related to her profession.

Tina also enjoys traveling but her favorite place to be is at home with her husband John, because that's where they can spend time together as a family - they have two grown-up children Cathleen who lives in New Zealand, and Ian who lives in Bali.

Endodontist

Lucy Sullivan, BDS, DClinDent(Endo), MRACDS

Lucy is a Dunedin native with a passion for endodontics and the challenges that it often involves.

She graduated from Otago University with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Distinction) in 2012, after which she worked as a Maxillofacial and Dental House Officer at Waikato Hospital where she gained invaluable surgical skills, experience with dental and medical emergencies, and treating medically compromised patients. Lucy then practiced at an accident and emergency clinic in Auckland before returning home to Dunedin to undertake her Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry degree in Endodontics and also received her MRACDS with the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons.

Lucy is an exceptionally bright and talented dentist with a work ethic that matches her passion. As a result, she received both the Leask Memorial Medal Award for the graduating dental student with the best performance in restorative dentistry and was added to the Dean’s list for exceptional academic performance in 2012.

Outside of work, Lucy enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys traveling and skiing.

Receptionist

, Office Manager

Janine Petre

Janine joined our practice as our receptionist a year after opening our new premises in Roslyn.

She worked as a Dental Assistant & receptionist for 17 years before this, 5 years in private practice, then 12 years at the School of Dentistry working in the Post Graduate & Paediatric depts and working with the SDHB Dental Therapy clinic based at the Dental School. She took 7 years off to bring up her two beautiful boys,

She is caring and gentle by nature and looks forward to welcoming you into our space where she will do everything possible to make your visit a pleasant one.

Her proficiency in using dental software allows for excellent record keeping, as well as fast and efficient communication with patients and their referring dentists. You will find her approachable and knowledgeable, able to help with any queries about appointments, referrals, accounts, or dental procedures

She belongs to a choir, is learning to play the flute, and loves fishing with her husband during the warmer months.

Chairside Assistant

Karen Stefani

Karen has always loved to care for people. She enjoys the challenge of dentistry and the opportunity it provides her to meet different people with their own stories.

After completing her Dental Assistant Certificate at Otago Polytechnic, Karen worked as a chairside assistant in the Post Graduate clinic at the Otago University School of Dentistry for 8 years. She has then worked as Tina’s chairside assistant from 2012. The experience she gained in these roles has provided her with an excellent understanding of both the interaction between the general dental practice and different dental specialties, as well as the challenges faced working in a specialist practice.

Karen has proved to be an excellent endodontic chairside assistant. She enjoys interacting with patients and the supportive role of a chairside assistant. Her vibrant and caring personality is renowned amongst our patients, and she manages to put even the most anxious patients at ease. She is a valuable member of our team, and is crucial to our aim of achieving the best possible outcome for each patient.

Karen is married to John and they have two children – Alia, who lives and works in Dunedin, and Jake, who lives and works in Cairns.

Chairside Assistant

Judy McMillan

Judy has a wealth of experience from her time working in private practice for over 20 years. She also spent some time working in the Oral Surgery department at the School of Dentistry.

Judy enjoys helping patients cope with any fears they may have of dental procedures and making their experience comfortable and positive.

Judy is a gentle soul who is not only very kind, but also very well organized and meticulous in the practice.

When Judy isn’t working you will find her on the sidelines supporting her two children and when she can she loves getting away to Central Otago

Dental Assistant

Kerry Popham

Kerry began her role as our receptionist in our new premises and now she is one of our most loved and valuable support people, coming in on a weekly basis.

Kerry is very friendly and full of life, you can be guaranteed to hear her laughter echoing down the hall at least once during your session.

Kerry has a Dental Assistant Certificate from Otago Polytechnic and a Diploma of Dental Therapy from the University of Otago. She has been working as a Dental Therapist and Dental Assistant for over 20 years with experience in administration work as well.

She is enjoying her flexible role which gives her a good work/life balance and most importantly more time to spend with her grandchildren.

Dental Assistant

Melissa Connell

Melissa is a Dental Assistant who has been in the dental field for the past 15 years.

She started as a dental assistant after finishing school, then had some time working as a rep for an orthodontic company, and then worked as the receptionist at a busy city dental practice.

Being one of the people to help support patients who are usually very nervous is what makes her love this job.

She works as one of our wonderful support people and we enjoy her lovely bubbly personality.

She also loves to work on her photography business in her spare time. With her husband and 3 beautiful children, she has a very busy life living on a small lifestyle property just out of town.
